There are occasions when employees will be required to perform ‘higher duties’. This can be defined as when the employee is asked to perform work at a higher classification than what would be expected in their position for a temporary period.  This is usually for a period of up to 6 months as higher duties relates to a temporary arrangement. In some scenarios, organisations will pay higher duties up to a 12-month period, however if the incumbent of the position will not be fulfilling their role for more than this period, it is strongly recommended that the employer takes the appropriate steps to formally reflect who is performing what role in an ongoing basis. This template is for employees currently engaged on a salary.
