Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that Australia will observe a National Day of Mourning on Thursday 22 September 2022, to commemorate Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Prime Minister has also written to the Premiers and Chief Ministers of each state and territory to request that the day be declared a public holiday in their respective jurisdictions. Steps are being taken to implement this request.

This advice outlines some of the implications for employers under the National Employment Standards, modern awards and enterprise agreements flowing from the declaration of an additional public holiday.
