PFIAA  represents pet food manufacturers, ingredient importers and marketers with government agencies and key industry stakeholders and works to minimise the impact of regulations while achieving the government’s policy objectives.   

The PFIAA members manufacture or import complete pet food products to meet the Australian Standard 5812. Members also include companies operating in freight and logistics sector, expanding our coverage of the supply chain.     

Members range from large multi-national companies to small local manufacturers. With the Australian market valued at $2.2 billion it makes them a significant contributor to the Australian economy. Pet food is a growing sector with a predicted annualised growth rate of 4.1%.       

Ai Group support includes representation on a range of industry related committees and works closely with government to ensure the best outcomes for pets and the industry. 

This includes influencing change through the introduction of regulation, which was recommended in the Senate Report 2018.    

The mission of the Association is to promote standards of excellence in the development of the pet food industry through: 

  • consideration of the needs of pets and the community; 
  • active promotion of the benefits of responsible pet ownership; and 
  • promotion of prepared pet food as the preferred method of pet nutrition and reinforced through establishment and self-regulation of industry standards.
