Family and domestic violence is a scourge on the community and much has been publicly discussed and debated about ways to prevent violence and support survivors.

Moreover, it disproportionately affects women and children but women, men, elders and youth can be victims and perpetrators, and this form of violence can also be experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people.
