In an opinion piece published in The Australian on 7 October 2022, Ai Group Chief Executive Innes Willox argued for the Government not to back away from the legislated tax cuts, basically on the grounds that:

• The question of unfairness is dealt with by the fact that the tax changes are part of a series budget tax measures that earlier delivered for low and middle income earners;
• A big element of the tax cuts simply makes up for fiscal drag/bracket creep since the income tax scales were last adjusted;
• The changes would maintain the same proportion of income tax paid by high income earners as existed before the package was originally announced; and
• The cuts will sharpen work, saving and investment incentives and are a positive for productivity.
