“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Gemma Daley as Ai Group’s new Head of Media and Government Affairs,” Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Australian Industry Group said today.
“Gemma will be based in Canberra and will start in the role on Monday 1 July. She replaces Tony Melville who is leaving Ai Group on Tuesday 16 July after 21 years with our organisation.
“Gemma comes to us with an extensive and impressive background in Canberra as a senior government adviser, journalist, and media and communications specialist in the private sector and other business associations.
“Her previous roles have included Senior Adviser Strategic Communications to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Senior Adviser Media and Strategy to Treasurer Joe Hockey.
“Gemma has worked as a journalist in the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Canberra, in roles including National Economic and Government Editor for Bloomberg and Chief of Staff in the Australian Financial Review’s Canberra Bureau.
“I am sure you will also join me in farewelling Tony Melville, who has been a true stalwart of Ai Group. He worked closely with me and my predecessors over more than two decades to build the organisation that we have grown into today. Tony’s significant service to corporate and government communications was acknowledged with his appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday honours list,” Mr Willox said.
