"Today's move by the Senate to establish an inquiry into the latest changes to workplace regulation is a welcome move that will provide more time for proper scrutiny of the planned laws," Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group said today.

"A comprehensive inquiry is essential, given the breadth, scope and impact of the Government's proposed measures on employers, their workers, casual workers, labour hire employees, contractors, transport workers and gig workers.

"The legislation is complex, convoluted and includes a series of fatal flaws. The proposals will not create a single job, do nothing to boost productivity, and will stifle innovation and create insecure work for tens of thousands of Australians who are currently comfortable with their employment arrangements.

"Ai Group will be an active contributor to the inquiry and we look forward to working with the Senators as they use the time available to consider potential amendments to the Bill to at least mitigate some of its worst aspects,” Mr Willox said.
