Ai Group welcomes today's release of the Defence National Manufacturing Priority road map. The road map will make Australia more resilient and better equipped to respond to rising geopolitical tensions and uncertainty," Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group, said today.
"Australia's defence industry is growing with over 4,000 businesses employing approximately 30,000 staff. The sector is critical not only for national security but also to help the economy recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
"The road map provides a direction for the Australian defence industry in building and sustaining Australia’s strategic and economic resilience. To achieve our national objectives, we will need more significant investment in raising domestic defence industry capabilities, including the defence industry workforce.
"Ai Group is committed to helping build a more secure and resilient Defence industry through our Ai Group Defence Council and the partnerships we have built with Government and Defence. We aim to help improve business security posture, and there will no doubt be benefits across a range of sectors as businesses engage both in Defence and non-Defence work," Mr. Willox said.
