“The TWU’s current bargaining campaign is a threat to the welfare of the Australian community at this critical time,” Innes Willox Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group said today.

“During the pandemic and associated lock-downs, road transport is playing a particularly important role in ensuring that Australians have access to the vital supplies they need. Also, road transport is enabling thousands of businesses in numerous industries to keep operating and to keep millions of Australians employed.

“In such an environment, it is unfathomable that the TWU has decided to unleash a coordinated campaign of bargaining claims and associated industrial action.

"Australia’s supply chains are already deeply stretched and stressed by state border closures and this action risks needlessly exacerbating the existing pressures on Australian industry and their workers.

“The campaign deserves the strongest condemnation,” Mr Willox said.
