This program is designed to ensure that managers and supervisors understand their role in promoting a respectful workplace culture, achieving legal compliance and undertaking effective complaint handling. Participants will explore when and how they are obliged to act in a range of common workplace scenarios.

The culture of any organisation is shaped by the worst behaviour the leader is willing to tolerate. (Gruenter and Whitaker).

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Define discrimination, harassment (including sexual harassment) and bullying and explain the impact of it in the workplace
  • Identify the duties and responsibilities of managers and supervisors, particularly in relation to compliance, role modelling and complaint handling
  • Determine what constitutes reasonable management action in the context of performance management and disciplinary action
  • Examine the potential liability of managers and employers and how to proactively identify and address risk factors
  • Determine how to respond effectively to allegations and complaints, and
  • Apply the legal protections afforded to workers complaining of unacceptable workplace behaviour (protections against victimisation and adverse action) and workers accused of it (procedural fairness).

Note:  Additionally, Onsite programs are available for employees (1.5 hours) and senior executives (1.5 hours).

Important: If you are considering this training as part of meeting your positive duty to prevent sexual harassment, discrimination and other unlawful behaviours under Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth), please be aware that the Guidelines for Complying with the Positive Duty (August 2023) outline expectations in relation to effective formal training and learning.  You should consider whether this training will be suitable and effective for your organisation, bearing this guidance in mind.  If you’d like further information about this, please contact our Ai Group Workplace Lawyers team.
