A consortium of Ai Group members and other employers in South Australia are working together to develop a new degree-level apprenticeship in software engineering. Software engineers are in short supply in Australia. The Tech Council recently released a report saying Australia needs to employ an additional 653,000 tech workers by the end of the decade. Currently, less than 1,000 students complete an IT university qualification each year in South Australia, and many of them are international students.

The apprentices will graduate with a Bachelor of Software Engineering from The University of South Australia. The course will be delivered like an apprenticeship program rather than a typical university program.

Companies will be working with Uni SA to develop the training content and its delivery model, and will also be working on developing suitable employment and recruitment arrangements. If you would like to be involved in the process, please contact Peter Canavan at peter.canavan@aigroup.com.au.
