South Australian companies have completed recruitment for the first intake of degree apprenticeships in Australia. Software engineering, aligned to the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) was declared a higher education trade in October 2023 by the South Australian Skills Commission in response to an application by Ai Group’s Centre for Education and Training.
With recruitment coordinated by Ai Group’s Apprentice and Trainee Centre, 13 apprentices from a field of 162 applicants were offered training and employment contracts in January. They will commence work and their studies at the University of South Australia in February.
Ai Group CET has been at the forefront of establishing degree apprenticeships across Australia. In addition to the South Australian program, there are three other programs under development in Victoria and Queensland.
