The National Skills Commission has released its Australian Jobs 2021 report, which steps through all aspects of the labour market, including trends across states and territories. As expected the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on jobs, especially for youth. The report also shows a broad shift to service industries, along with an increased emphasis on post-school qualifications from employers.
Relevant to our current environment of volatile economic conditions, the report points out that the labour market can change quickly. It stresses that future labour market conditions are not easy to forecast and therefore stresses employment and training decisions should not be based solely on predicted shortages.
