Many employers place a strong emphasis on the first month of induction but often overlook the importance of a continued onboarding program. The first 3 to 6 months are critical for cementing the Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and setting the employee up for long-term success.

Onboarding is integral to every employer’s retention and talent strategy. When employers do not invest time or effort into long-term onboarding, it often results in negative outcomes such as turnover, lack of engagement, and lower productivity.

It is common for employees to have questions and need clarification well into their onboarding period. When new employees ask questions, it should be seen as a positive sign of their active engagement in learning. Questions provide valuable insights into what is going well and where the employee needs more support. Therefore, it is important that support for new employees continues beyond the first month. While they should become more independent, they will still require assistance from time to time, with further clarification of their role, responsibilities, and expectations.
