"The project design is an innovative way to get the job done and to build domestic capability. A significantly upgraded ASC and more developed domestic supply chains will be a great outcome for Australia. These benefits will flow not only to the Defence sector but beyond to the broader Australian industry and community.
"The Prime Minister's announcement that BAE has prequalified over 500 Australian businesses (including 100 in South Australia) is a welcome development for the supply chain around the country.
"The Future Frigate program is valued at $35 billion and is a critical element of the Government's Naval Shipbuilding Program.
"The Future Frigates announcement is the latest acquisition decision forming part of the transformation of the Australian Defence industry represented by the Federal Government's defence industry policy. The changes to defence industry policy, and commitment to a continuous naval shipbuilding program, represent a once-in-a-generation change to Australian industry in this country.
"We look forward to working with the Government, Defence and BAE in the delivery and implementation of this critical program. All three tendering companies are to be thanked for their significant commitment and strong proposals for this project," Mr Willox said.
