Frequently Touched Surfaces

Door handles, tabletops, light switches

  • Should be frequently, mechanically cleaned.
  • Determine a suitable frequency and record when cleaning is undertaken.
  • Detergent solution (as per manufacturer’s instructions) or detergent/disinfectant wipes can be used (so long as mechanical cleaning is achieved).
  • Follow cleaning with sanitizing/disinfecting with bleach or other suitable solution.

Minimally Touched Surfaces

Floors, ceilings, walls, blinds

  • Detergent solution/wipes (as per manufacturer’s instructions) are adequate for cleaning general surfaces.
  • Damp mopping is preferable to dry mopping.
  • Walls and blinds should be cleaned when visibly dusty or soiled.
  • Window curtains should be regularly changed in addition to being cleaned when soiled.
  • Sinks and basins should be cleaned on a regular basis.

Electronic Devices

Tablets, touch screens, keyboards, remote controls

  • Consider use of wipeable covers for electronics.
  • Remove visible contamination if present.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and disinfecting.
  • If no manufacturer guidance is available, consider the use of alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol to disinfect touch screens.
  • Dry surfaces thoroughly to avoid pooling of liquids
