Speaker_Gary_150.jpgGary Mortimer is a Professor of Marketing and Consumer Behaviour at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Business School. His research interests span customer experiences, consumption and emotions. Prior to joining QUT, Gary spent over 25 years working with some of Australia’s largest general merchandise and food retailers. In 2020, he was appointed as the Chair of the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) Consumer Research Advisory Committee. Professor Mortimer also sits on several editorial boards. Widely recognised as Australia’s leading retail expert and media commentator, he works closely with Australian television, print, online and radio media to engage broadly with audiences, outside of academia.

Speaker_Andy_150.jpgAndy Van Den Broeck is Head of Product Development ANZ for Barry Callebaut in Melbourne, Australia. Andy’s love for crafting with chocolate started during his bakery, pastry and confectionery studies at age 14 at the famous Belgian “Ter Groene Poorte” school, in Bruges. The ability to share this love with others was cultivated while studying his teachers degree. Andy gained experience in all steps of the chocolate production process, from creating chocolate through to distribution, while working in Belgium, Singapore, Australia and Indonesia. Andy is currently the Barry Callebaut Customer Product Development Manager for the Australia and New Zealand markets, based in Melbourne where he oversees all R&D projects and shapes the local R&D team and facilities at their newly commissioned production site.

Tim Piper AM

Head of the Ai Group Confectionery Sector & Head of Ai Group in Victoria


Speaker_Tim_Piper_150-2.jpgIn addition to his role as Head of the Ai Group Confectionery Sector, Tim Piper is Head of Ai Group in Victoria. As Head of the Confectionery Sector Tim works with the Confectionery Reference Group on key industry issues. Tim sits on the Executive Council of the International Confectionery Association (ICA) and in 2014 became Vice President. Tim also Chairs the Industry Capability Network in Victoria which encourages the use of locally manufactured goods. He is an inaugural Board member of the Portable Long Service Leave Authority and also sits on the GS1 Board, which owns barcodes; and is a member of the Victorian WorkCover Authority Advisory Committee. Tim was honoured with the Member of the Order of Australia for his services to industry and manufacturing, to skills training and to multicultural youth. He has also been an Australia Day Ambassador and was the recipient of the Centenary Medal for services to the business community.

Associate Professor, Dr Gie Liem

Associate Professor Sensory and Consumer Science, CASS Food Research Centre, Deakin University


Speaker_Gie_150.jpgDr Gie Liem is an Associate Professor in sensory and consumer science at the Consumer-Analytical-Safety-Sensory (CASS) food research centre at Deakin University. He previously held positions at Unilever R&D, the Wageningen University in the Netherlands and the Monell Chemical Senses Centre in Philadephia in the US. Gie has published over 50 papers in the area of psychology of food choice, sensory marketing and food science. He is an executive editor of the Elsevier journal ‘Appetite’ and member of the editorial board of the journal ‘Food Quality and Preference’.

Marcel Sieira

Chief Customer Officer, GS1 Australia


Speaker_Marcel_150.jpgMarcel’s passion is to work with industry and government in helping them understand the power of GS1 standards, the benefits that can be realised and facilitate work programs aimed at industry-wide implementation. Marcel has been involved in e-business and supply chain since 1997 and joined GS1 Australia in 2003. Prior to joining GS1 Marcel held senior sales and business development management roles with solution providers focused on e-Business and EDI, data synchronization, warehouse management and internet security applications. Over the last 19 years at GS1, Marcel has held several roles and today leads GS1 Australia’s Customer Engagement, Consulting, Sales and Business Development teams tasked with assisting the private and public sectors implement GS1 standards and services. As Chief Customer Officer, Marcel is part of the organisation’s Senior Executive Team, assisting to develop and execute GS1 Australia’s business strategy. He also represents GS1 Australia on a range of committees and working groups both in Australia and abroad.

Tim Kane

Program Lead, Agricultural Forecasting and Policy, Australian Bureau of Agricultural Research, Economics and Sciences (ABARES)


Speaker_Tim_150.jpgTim Kane is a senior economist and Program Lead of the Agricultural Forecasting and Policy Program at the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Research, Economics and Sciences (ABARES), where he is responsible for advising the Government on the outlook for agricultural commodity production, prices and exports. Prior to this, Tim worked as an economist in the Commonwealth Department of Education for more than 10 years. In this role, he was responsible for delivering a range of Government priorities including the development of the Government’s National Research Infrastructure Investment Plan and supporting the negotiations for a national skills agreement. Before working in the Public Service, Tim worked on economic regulation issues for an industry association in the electricity and gas distribution sector.

Olivia Tyler

Prior to Edge, Olivia held roles ranging from senior corporate responsibility to sustainability and risk positions at the Westpac Group, Woolworths, Treasury Wine Estates, Foster’s Group and Goodman Fielder. At Edge, Olivia is focused on utilising her insights and expertise to build a team of incredible and well-rounded sustainability professionals, creating client-centric solutions to deliver sustained and meaningful change.

Richard Smith

Richard is a Chemical Engineer and has worked in the packaging industry for over 30 years, focused heavily on innovation and enabling customers’ to becoming more circular through responsible packaging solutions. In 2013 Richard was made a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Packaging for significant contribution to the development of innovative plastics packaging. More recently, in 2020 Richard was appointed as a non-executive Director of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO).

John Cheng

Innovate 360 has helped more than 60 agri-food tech start-ups in areas of mentorship, venture funding, expertise and access to markets since 2018. It is an accredited mentor partner supported by the Singapore Government and recognised as a technical partner by Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Policy Partnership on Food Security. In 2021, John launched, an e-commerce platform that helps companies go digital, engage consumers and go global. Prior to Innovate 360, he worked at his 75-year-old family business, transforming and modernising the business for more than 12 years.

In her role as Insights and Innovation Manager, she provides Innova’s customers with strategic insights, shares the latest industry trends and consults in development of new product innovations and market success. Irene has a background in market research and consumer behaviour and was part of Innova’s analysis team for three years before moving to Asia. Irene is an experienced speaker within the FMCG industry, engaging audiences at events and conferences around the globe.

Nick Hazell

Launched nationally in October 2019, v2food has developed plant-based meat, building on a close collaboration with CSIRO to create tasty, sustainable and healthy products. Hazell holds a Master of Manufacturing from Cambridge University. He worked in aerospace and chocolate manufacturing before moving into research and development in the food industry, working at global multinationals in The Netherlands and Australia. He was R&D Director at Masterfoods and at PepsiCo Australia and New Zealand, working on products like Grain Waves, Red Rock Deli, Sunbites and Smiths. He lectures in the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation at UTS and has consulted to CSIRO and the meat industry.

Anthony (Lehmo) Lehmann

Speaker_Lehmo_150-2.jpgAnthony (Lehmo) Lehmann is one of Australia's best, most experienced, most well-travelled and busiest stand-up comedians. He is a well-known radio host, television presenter and comedic performer. Anthony Lehmann (commonly referred to as Lehmo) incredibly started his career as a Chartered Accountant, Lehmo spent many years crunching numbers before finding his calling in entertainment. His radio career began as the co-host of SAFM Breakfast Show in Adelaide, before co-hosting Wil and Lehmo on Triple M, alongside his friend Wil Anderson. In 2009, Lehmo joined Brigitte Duclos to bring Mix Mornings with Brig and Lehmo to Mix 101.1 for three years before taking over the Gold FM Breakfast shift. Aside from radio, Lehmo is also a regular on television, appearing as a co-host on ‘The Project’, as well as roles in ‘Before The Game’, ‘Good News Week’, ‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday’ and many more programs. As a comedian, Lehmo has travelled both nationally and internationally, headlining some of the world’s largest venues. His witty comedy and knack for making people laugh has seen his popularity soar around the world.
