Work-related functions where the employer condones the consumption of alcohol must be carefully managed. The office party, and product launches or promotions will almost certainly be considered an activity arising out of, or in the course of, employment.
Consequently, an employer should ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to monitor the consumption of alcohol and encourage employees not to behave in a way that would put themselves, or others, at an unacceptable risk.
