Desk based work can contribute to injuries related to static postures and repetitive use. The correct workstation setup can greatly reduce the chance of suffering injury from desk based work.
Safe setup requires an ergonomically sound chair, a suitable desk, and other equipment such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse and possibly a laptop riser. Use this brief checklist to check and correct your working habits and posture.
It is important to remember that breaks and movement are also key to reducing the risk of injury. Where possible incorporate micro and longer breaks by walking to talk with team members rather than emailing, getting up to get a drink of water, walking to the printer, etc. Take the opportunity where possible to have lunch and scheduled breaks away from your desk to give your body a rest from the same posture and repetitive actions.
