Planning will be a key part to preparing for redundancy. It is important that a business has an unassailable underlying business case which clearly outlines the reasons for redundancies. Redundancy should not be used as an excuse to exit underperforming staff. Such employees should be dealt with through the performance management process. The key is to be able to prove there is a genuine business case for the redundancy to be made.
