The Net Zero Economy Authority Act 2024 (Cth) and the Net Zero Economy Authority (Transitional Provisions) Act 2024 (Cth) create a legal framework for Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy.
The legal framework establishes the Net Zero Economy Authority, which has various roles, including facilitating the transition of affected workers to new employment under the Energy Industry Jobs Plan.
The Energy Industry Jobs Plan will apply to certain coal-fired and gas-fired power stations (and related employers with a commercial relationship with these power stations) when notice of closure is given by the power station.
