Juicy Isle Case Study
Tasmanian juice company, Juicy Isle acquired two beverage companies during the past four years, Hartz Mineral Water and Wellington Springs, expanding their production facilities from two juice lines to incorporate six water-based lines for consumer and industrial markets.

Peter worked with Juicy Isle to identify points of production congestion – ‘bottlenecks’; calculate and reduce changeover times and plan the production run scheduling to create a smoother, more efficient running of the plant.

  • The company watched productivity increase by 20%. In the following two years another 10% per annum increase occurred.
  • Variable production overheads have been reduced by 10% per annum and;
  • Capacity to take on more orders has improved.

Harvest Moon Case Study
ATCO Structures & Logistics produce temporary buildings and structures for the construction industry in Australia since 1961. They wanted help with their Perth facility implementing a new Greenfields Layout and sessions designed to map the current and future states.

Harvest Moon is a major grower and processor of fresh vegetables. They produce of cabbages, potatoes, onions and is Australia’s largest carrot producer. They were an interesting lean food industry challenge, where we applied lean principles to an Agribusiness.

The end-to-end processing chain was mapped to identify bottlenecks and key areas of waste. Initial coaching on lean principles was provided and solutions developed to apply during the season.

The project has now been extended in to a second carrot season, however significant results have already been achieved. Improved daily maintenance routines and product and process checks have led to a stunning 80% reduction in unplanned downtime.
