Mathematical Sciences vision will help Australia thrive

"The new ten-year plan for mathematics in Australia released by the Australian Academy of Science today highlights concerns raised by the Ai Group around the needs of the current and future workforce," Australian Industry Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said today.

"In business and industry we are seeing a steady increase in the importance of quantitative skills. In such an environment, countries with a strong educational system in mathematics will thrive while those without it will be left behind.

"In contributing to the plan, Ai Group drew particular attention to the need to strengthen Foundation Skills, including mathematical skills, in the workplace. Higher skill levels link to improved productivity.

"We look forward to the implementation of the plan over the coming decade and the boost it will give to the mathematical sciences and Australian industry," Mr Willox said.
