"VP Watson's knowledge of business, his understanding of the imperatives of business competitiveness, his knowledge of the law, and his practical and fair approach, will be sorely missed. It is essential that the Federal Government moves quickly to replace VP Watson with a person with these similar essential qualities.
"Media reports indicate that the Vice President's resignation letter to Employment Minister Michaelia Cash contains significant criticisms of the Fair Work Act 2009. This adds further weight to the arguments of Ai Group and other industry representatives that the Government needs to move without delay to implement its response to the Productivity Commission's report on Australia's Workplace Relations Framework. There are many positive recommendations in the Productivity Commission's report, including those dealing with enterprise agreement content, transfer of business and unfair dismissal laws.
"Ai Group wishes Vice President Graeme Watson the very best with whatever he decides to do next in his long and distinguished career in workplace relations, and we thank him for the huge contribution that he has made," Mr Willox said.
