Business calls for no new taxes in Victorian Budget

The Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) has called on the State Government not to impose new or increased taxes on Victorian businesses in Tuesday’s State Budget.

Ai Group has also called on the Victorian Government to support businesses which are seeking to improve their energy efficiency. Greater energy efficiency by businesses is an important part of the overall solution to escalating concerns over the energy outlook and will help deliver economic and environmental benefits across the Victorian community as well as improving business competitiveness.

The Head of Ai Group’s Victorian Branch, Tim Piper, said: "Now is not the time to be creating new taxes or lifting existing taxes. The Government has imposed additional taxes on businesses in past Budgets, but we would expect the positive budgetary environment should mean business will only get positive news from Tuesday’s Budget.

"The infrastructure announcements already made by the Government and which will be included in Tuesday’s Budget have been very positive and should continue to ensure infrastructure creates a significant benefit for the local economy," Mr Piper said.
