Ai Group comment on Federal Labor's proposal for a National Inquiry into Post-Secondary Education

"The ALP's announcement today that in Government it would launch a National Inquiry into Post-Secondary Education, brings welcome attention to the need to address shortcomings in both the vocational and higher education systems," Ai Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said today.

"Ai Group recognises the necessity to reposition our tertiary education system, including ensuring adequate funding, for it to be able to deliver upon its mission. Any future Inquiry should be framed to achieve this outcome.

"This should be a shared goal and the Federal Government has the opportunity in the upcoming May Federal budget to make a strong statement and address the needs of the tertiary sector. Bipartisanship, or as close to it as possible, is essential for delivering on the long-term needs of our emerging workforce, their trainers and employers.

"The rapidly changing global economy, coupled with the transforming workplace, means that it is imperative that Australia has a vibrant, high performing, highly valued tertiary education system. Not only does industry seek this outcome but students should expect it," Mr Willox said.
