Ai Group welcomes appointment of Paul Johnson as co-chair of new Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC)

"The appointment of Paul Johnson as the co-chair of the new Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) is further confirmation that the Federal Government is committed to strengthening the relationship between Defence and defence industry," Ai Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said today.

In announcing the appointment at Land Forces 2016 in Adelaide, Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne emphasised the important role to be played by the CDIC to fund new industry development, critical skilling and export programs. The CDIC will be funded at approximately $23 million per year, which will be redirected from existing Defence industry program funding.

"Ai Group recognises the importance of leveraging the commitment that has been made to the acquisition of defence capabilities for the broader benefit of the Australian community. We have an opportunity to develop workforce skills and build new business opportunities both domestically and globally by taking a strategic approach to the relationship between Defence and defence industry and Ai Group is keen to contribute to building these relationships and ensuring they generate long-term, community-wide benefits.

"Paul Johnson MBE is an experienced Australian defence industry leader and former Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Australia Pty Ltd. As a former highly respected chairman of the Ai Group Defence Council, Paul brings to his new appointment valuable expertise in partnership with co-chairman Defence Deputy Secretary, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment, Kim Gillis," Mr Willox said.
