Industry welcomes passage of Emergency Services Volunteers Bill

"The Australian Industry Group welcomes the passage through Parliament of the Fair Work Amendment (Respect for Emergency Services Volunteers) Bill 2016. There is a legitimate public interest in prohibiting enterprise agreements from containing provisions which would prevent volunteer emergency services bodies managing their volunteer operations safely, productively and efficiently," Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the Australian Industry Group, said today.

"The passage of this Bill is a good indication that the Government will be able to work with the Crossbench Senators on important workplace relations changes. Ai Group hopes that a similar successful outcome will be achieved on the ABCC Bill.

"Ai Group urges all Parliamentarians to support the ABCC Bill. The Bill will deliver vital reforms, and the case for reform is compelling.

"The spurious claims which the unions are making about the Bill need to be roundly rejected. Parliament needs to act to ensure that the law-breaking behavior of the CFMEU, which has been the subject of numerous strong statements from respected judges, is brought to an end. No-one is above the law in Australia, and no-one who complies with the law has anything to fear from the Australian Building and Construction Commission,”Mr Willox said.
