Another milestone for the Defence industry: Release of the Defence Industrial Capability Plan

"The Federal Government's release today of the first Defence Industrial Capability Plan is an important milestone in the Defence and industry partnership and will further assist in broadening Australia’s economic base and adding to jobs growth," Australian Industry Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox said today.

"The Plan sets out the Government's vision for the Australian industry, backed by resources and an implementation plan to help get ready for the future. The Defence Industrial Capability Plan is an important source of information for Australian industry to help underpin planning and investment.

"The definition of 10 Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities, set out in the Defence Industrial Capability Plan, will assist Defence and defence industry to understand the priorities of Government and Defence. The Plan sets out an implementation strategy to develop industrial strategies to realise this vision. We look forward to working with Defence on further developing these strategies. We also look forward to engaging across the political spectrum and encouraging the cross-parliamentary support for the strategy that will give businesses confidence to invest in equipment and capability development that is so fundamental to success.

"The Ai Group Defence Council, Australia's peak body for the defence industry, commends the Government's ongoing transformation of the Defence and Australian industry relationship, which began with the release of the Defence White Paper and Defence Industry Policy Statement in 2016.

"The Defence Industrial Capability Plan represents the next milestone in a suite of policies, programs and investment that are revolutionising the Australian industry landscape in Defence, including by strengthening the Australian Industry Capability Program, setting out the Naval Shipbuilding Plan and articulating the Defence Export Strategy.

"Already we are seeing business confidence growing and order books filling through the efforts of Government, Defence and defence industry. Australian defence businesses are ready to meet the challenges ahead, partnering with Defence and adding to the competitive national industrial base required to support the Australian Defence Force and promoting the development of the broader Australian economy and the growth of diverse economic and social opportunities," Mr Willox said.
