ABCC and Building Code: Ai Group wins practical changes

"We are pleased that the Government has responded to practical proposals put forward by the Australian Industry Group in regard to the ABCC Act and the Building Code 2016," Ai Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said today.

"The ABCC Act was recently varied to bring forward the date to 1 September 2017, by which businesses covered by the Building Code 2016 need to have their enterprise agreements compliant with the Code.

"Building industry contractors support the ABCC Act and the Building Code but there is a huge task ahead for them in varying their enterprise agreements to ensure Code-compliance. The changes that have been made to the Code will reduce the compliance burden on contractors during the transitional period up to 1 September 2017.” Mr Willox said.

"From 1 September, all agreements that have ongoing application to building work will need to be Code-compliant.

"A detailed Member Advice on the changes to the ABCC Act and the Building Code, including the amendments referred to above, will be distributed this week."
