Proposed new Federal legislation intended to help protect Australian communications networks and businesses from cyber attack and sabotage might actually make them more exposed to such threats, a broad coalition of industry representatives has warned.

"The announcement by Employment Minister Michaelia Cash that legislative amendments will be introduced to redress the Fair Work Commission's current overly technical approach to assessing enterprise agreements at the approval stage is very welcome. The announcement follows many representations by Ai Group on this issue over recent months," Innes Willox, Ai Group Chief Executive, said today.
The Australian Industry Group Australian Performance of Services Index (Australian PSI®) expanded for a third consecutive month in January but at a slower pace than in December, dropping by 3.2 points to 54.5 (results above 50 points indicate expansion, with the distance from 50 points indicating the strength of the expansion).
"The announcement by Toyota of a final date for its involvement in auto assembly in Australia will subtract significant dimensions from Australia's advanced manufacturing capabilities. However, manufacturing remains strong in Australia and there is considerable cause for optimism in the industry's long-term future," Ai Group Chief Executive, Innes Willox, said today.
