The headline consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.1% q/q and 5.1% y/y in the March quarter (Q1) of 2022. This is significantly up from 1.3% q/q and 3.5% y/y in Q4 of 2021. The increase in headline inflation is due to rising transport costs (record high petrol prices), new dwellings and education.
