Victorian industry has welcomed the State Government's decision to freeze the WorkCover average premium rate for a further year.
With the average premium remaining at 1.8%, the Victorian Head of the Australian Industry Group, Tim Piper, said it was the sort of respite that industry badly needed at the moment.
"We met with the Deputy Premier and Worksafe Minister, the Honourable Ben Carroll, to let him know how important it was to send a positive message to industry. A freeze on premiums will help across big and small companies and evidences the Minister's recognition that business costs are high.
"We've seen increased taxes imposed on businesses in recent weeks and months, so keeping a lid on important business expenses is notable for a Government which is attempting to re-engage the business community," Mr. Piper said.
"We appreciate the government faces a challenging financial position at the moment, but see this as recognition industry has an important and critical part to play in the future for the state and Victorians.
Mr Piper said that, as a first step, it was good to keep costs down in an area that all employers were required to pay.
