The Australian Industry Group has welcomed the Victorian Government's announcement today to allow more workers to attend offices and remove the need for them to be wearing masks when in the office.

"Ai Group hopes this is the beginning of creating more efficiencies for businesses and enabling workers to return to positions which are more closely aligned to their normal jobs. We have asked the State Government to return to its previous plan for offices and are encouraged that it has listened to those requests," the Victorian Head of Ai Group, Tim Piper, said today.

"Businesses are pleased that the Government has recognised the desire of both employers and employees to return to the office and the value that face-to-face interactions bring to businesses.

"Industry is also hoping this willingness on the part of the Government to consider the relaxation of restrictions will extend to being open to changing the new permit system, which is causing considerable strain for some businesses, particularly those who need to use interstate workers in Victoria or to send workers interstate for projects.

"Work in other states is being impeded as businesses and employees don't want to leave Victoria if there is a danger that they may not be able to return.

"Ai Group looks forward to working closely with the State Government in developing an approach to COVID policies that balances the important health priorities with the need to support our economy and jobs. The Government should work closely with industry before making announcements which affect businesses and their employees," Mr Piper said.
