"NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has set a new higher bar for the State’s COVID exit plan that creates an ambitious reopening agenda and a beacon of hope that other jurisdictions should consider emulating," Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group said today.

"The Premier sent a strong message in his first COVID media conference that elected officials themselves need to own the decisions they take and take into account our economic and social well-being as well as the health advice.

"This approach was reinforced by the renaming of the Crisis Cabinet to become the COVID and Economic Recovery Committee. This shifts the dial to ensuring there is a laser-like focus on getting the economy firing up after restrictions are lifted and delivering the jobs and community benefits that a growing economy will create.

"Bringing forward the removal of the mask mandate for offices by at least a month may seem a small measure but in reality it will provide a huge boost to business districts and the countless businesses they support. Many workers were likely to postpone a return to workplaces while the mask mandate was in place.

"The NSW roadmap delivers hope which should inspire other states to adopt more ambitious targets within the national framework," Mr Willox said.
