“The announced reopening of NSW to the world is great news for NSW’s citizens, the community and for the Australian economy.  The reopening comes at a critical time for the many metropolitan and regional businesses struggling to find skilled labour and puts the state in the box seat of the COVID economic recovery,” Helen Waldron, NSW Head of the peak employer association Ai Group said today.

“Returning Australians reuniting with their families will be joined by skilled foreign workers; working holiday makers and tourists giving NSW a first mover advantage and a big economic boost.

“Premier Perrottet is to be congratulated for the border move and ending quarantine on arrival for those fully vaccinated which is good news for NSW businesses feeling the impacts of ongoing skill shortages and many other businesses reliant on international travel.

“It means that Australian businesspeople will once again be able to get overseas to seal deals with confidence that they will be able to return home.

“It also means that international businesses looking to invest in the state will be able to bring in the expertise to establish new operations and create more jobs.

“But it also means that NSW travelers will be able to get to Dublin or New York before they can get to Brisbane or Perth.  The other states need to follow suit and reconnect our country and our businesses with the rest of the world,” Ms Waldron said.
