The Australian Industry Group has welcomed the announcement by the Victorian Government of the retention of jobs in Ballarat with the redeployment of manufacturing workers at the Ballarat Railway Workshops to the Vlocity train maintenance program.
Ai Group’s Victorian Head, Tim Piper said: "Ballarat has a long history in railway manufacturing, but with existing orders due for completion the workers faced an uncertain future and local industry was at risk of losing a very highly skilled workforce.
"It is critical at this time that support is provided to maintain jobs in Ballarat and provide some certainty to workers and the State Government’s response is welcome.
"As we move beyond the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be important for the Victorian Government to stimulate the local economy and this announcement will ensure that the rail manufacturing industry in Ballarat can compete to secure further work,” Mr Piper said.
