"The commitment to fully reopen borders by Christmas everywhere except WA is a pleasing one. Christmas is in 42 days so it is not exactly a stretch target the states have set themselves. Industry hopes they can work to comfortably beat their own timeframe," Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group said today.

"The pressure on WA to reopen grows by the day. Industry reports increasing difficulty servicing the WA market and WA businesses report increasing frustration at missing opportunities interstate. It is getting to the point that some workers are basically being held captive in the west. We all can read the election calendar but hopefully common sense prevails. To open Australians to interstate and potentially some international travel but excluding WA makes no real sense," Mr Willox said.
