"If logic has any role in decision making the Victorian Government will shortly announce the removal of the costly Footy Friday public holiday now that the Grand Final has been lost to Queensland," Tim Piper, Victorian Head of the national employer association Ai Group, said today.
"Businesses are under huge financial pressure due to the lockdown of Melbourne and surrounds and any relief such as an end to this now inappropriate holiday would be welcome.
"The cost of this additional holiday has been previously estimated at $1.2 billion dollars, and such an impost would be another nail in the coffin for some businesses already half nailed shut.
"The 23rd of October should be a normal working day or otherwise the State Government needs to tell businesses why Victoria needs a holiday for a Queensland football match," Mr Piper said.
