Australian Industry Group was today announced as the winner of a prestigious inaugural award in recognition of our contribution to standards development.
Ai Group Head of Industry Development and Policy Louise McGrath and Lead - Standards and Product Regulation James Thomson (pictured third from right), attended the Standards Awards 2025 ceremony in Melbourne to receive the Nominating Organisation Award on behalf of Ai Group.
The award was created to celebrate organisations that demonstrate excellence and leadership in standards development by actively managing, encouraging and supporting their contributors to participate in the process.
“These organisations not only value their contributors’ input but also champion the critical role of standards — fostering collaboration, innovation and the highest levels of professionalism in standardisation,” Standards Australia said.
Ai Group was nominated by Davies Safety Consulting Director Tom Davies.
In a video shared at today’s ceremony, Mr Davies said: ‘I've been associated with Australian Industry Group for several years.
“I've nominated them for this award because of their outstanding ability to help others in the industry and encourage more Australian manufacturing.
“They've been an excellent industry group to be associated with, and I hope their members recognise the work they've put in.”
Mr Thomson (pictured above) said receiving the inaugural Nominating Organisation Award was a significant honour for Ai Group.
“Our staff and members are involved with Standards Australia at many levels including the Board, Council and technical committees,” he said.
“We hold over 350 positions on Standards Australia technical committees by 250 representatives, so it’s fantastic to be recognised for our support for our members who do all the hard work.
"We are committed to supporting Australian industry in engaging with local and international standards development, and we are fortunate that we have so many members willing to contribute their time and expertise.
"Without them, we wouldn’t have received this recognition.
"Also recognised was Osama Ali, from Caterpillar (an Ai Group member), winner of the Innovation Award.
"ITW Australia, whose employee Andrew Coumaros represents Ai Group on Committee BD-066 Prefabricated Concrete Elements, won the Outstanding Committee Award.
“Congratulations to everyone who received an award today.”
