When did you start?
August 2021
Position?
Paralegal
What attracted you to Ai Group Workplace Lawyers?
I’m studying law and applied to become a paralegal to gain practical experience.
I previously worked as a legal assistant for an employment lawyer, and I was keen to learn more about this type of law through the variety of opportunities available at Ai Group Workplace Lawyers.
How’s it going so far?
It’s great! I’ve learnt so much already, and it’s rewarding to apply the knowledge that I’m learning at uni to my work. My team have been so helpful and patient. They take the time to explain things to me and it’s clear they want me to succeed.
How are you managing full-time work and study?
It’s hard but it’s a good challenge. The end (of my law degree) is in sight so it’s pushing me to keep going! As a law student, I’m grateful to be gaining this hands-on experience at Ai Group Workplace Lawyers.
What does a paralegal do?
I review documents to ensure they are free from typos and formatting inconsistencies. I conduct legal research for the preparation of our member advices. I also draft emails and prepare invoicing.
What are your plans when you graduate?
I want to stay here; I really like it. Since I started working at Ai Group Workplace Lawyers, I’ve grown in confidence and am considering whether to move into an advisory role when I finish my degree.
I want to gain exposure to different areas of employment law because there are so many areas that Ai Group Workplace Lawyers cover. I am not sure if I will do my (six months of) training to become a lawyer straight after law school or take a short break.
And when you’re not working?
I have a daughter who’s 14 months old, so I try to spend as much time as I can with her. I play netball (centre-court positions) and I like cooking and trying new recipes.
If a friend were considering working at Ai Group Workplace Lawyers, what would you say?
I would say they should definitely come and work here! From my induction until now, everyone has been so welcoming. And, of course, the work flexibility is a bonus. My friends who have just graduated from law are working extremely long hours at other firms. We, however, have a good work-life balance at Ai Group Workplace Lawyers.
