The Productivity Commission is conducting a major inquiry into mental health in 2019. It is looking at its effect on people's ability to participate in and prosper in the community and workplace, and the effects it has more generally on our economy and productivity.

It is estimated that mental health conditions cost Australian workplaces $10.9 billion per year.

This is made up of:

  • Presenteeism – $6.1 billion
  • Absenteeism – $4.7 billion
  • Compensation Claims – $145.9 million
