Export Markets - Thailand Thailand is Australia’s 10th largest trading partner, and a key partner for Australia in the dynamic Western Pacific region. Two way trade between the two countries increased by over 30% in 2005, with Australian exports to Thailand increasing by over 34% from $3.1 billion to $4.1 billion. This rapid growth is substantially attributable to the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement, which came into force on 1 January 2005. The FTA has resulted in the elimination of almost half of Thailand’s 5,000 tariffs – covering almost four-fifths of Australia’s exports, and other market access improvements which have provided an expansion in business opportunities for Australian exporters. Over the last decade Thailand has emerged as a centre for manufacturing and assembly in South East Asia, and Thailand is now the largest motor vehicle assembler in South East Asia. It has many human and natural advantages. It has a skilled and educated workforce. It has a strong communications and transport infrastructure, and is engaging both regionally and globally to cement its economic position. Ai Group’s Trade and Export Development team are ready to assist you with the process of better understanding this increasingly important market and the exciting opportunities it offers Australian exporters.
