  • The Fair Work Information Statement, to be provided to new employees from 1 January 2010, has now been published by the Fair Work Ombudsman.

    Penalties of up to $33,000 apply for failure to provide the Statement.


The Fair Work legislation has introduced major changes to the workplace relations system, affecting bargaining, agreement making, termination of employment and union rights of entry.

On 1 January 2010, the new modern award system and the National Employment Standards commenced operation.

Fact Sheets

National Employment Standards (NES)

How do the new National Employment Standards affect your business? 
Since 1 January 2010, the National Employment Standards (NES) have applied as a new set of national employment entitlements under the Fair Work Act 2009. The NES, together with modern awards, form the safety net of conditions for employees under the national system. The NES apply to all such employees, whether award-covered, agreement-covered or award / agreement free.
