Welcome to SuperSafe, a two day construction specific health and safety training course targeted at construction site supervisors. SuperSafe has been developed on behalf of the Construction Safety Alliance (CSA) with the support and assistance of WorkCover NSW.
The course has been designed to reflect current approaches to developing a safety culture in the construction industry and has been aligned with parts of the Construction Safety Competency Framework (CSCF) developed by the Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation, Queensland
Aims of Course The aims of the course are:
To motivate participants to adopt a systematic, risk management style of management and leadership,
To provide participants with the practical skills needed to be an effective supervisor
To provide participants with the skills and behaviours to positively affect the safety culture on their jobs.
Adult Learning SuperSafe consists of 7 modules of learning run over two days. A PowerPoint presentation provides some structure but with room for flexibility depending on the needs of the group as a whole.
A key part of the design of the course results from the belief that all participants bring to the training session a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. As a result the success of the training hinges on you sharing your experiences and their ideas during each session.
Questions, experiences and illustrations are welcomed, however there is the need to keep the discussion on track and on time as there is an awful lot of material to cover in just two days. If you don’t understand something – speak up you’re properly not the only one who needs clarification.
Worksheets The majority of the training modules have a number of learning activities that are structured around Worksheets.
Each Worksheet is contained in your workbook, at the back of the Module to which it relates.
These worksheets will be reviewed by the trainer as a measure of your participation
If you require assistance with reading or writing, please let the trainer know now and he/she can conduct the assessment by listening to what you have to say in the group discussion.
Activities In addition there are a number of “activities” which involve your active participation, which will form part of the assessment for the course.
Assessment
There are three types of assessment which must be successfully completed to attain certification for this training package. They are:
A quiz: These are completed and handed in at the completion of each day. You will be considered competent if you get 80% of the questions correct.
Participation: This is assessed by your participation in the learning activities and by reviewing your Worksheets. There are no right or wrong answers. If you make a reasonable attempt at completing the Worksheets and are involved and interested in the activities and discussions you will successfully complete this part of the assessment.
Take home exercises: There a two take home exercises on Day 2 which you need to complete and submit for review two weeks after the completion of the course. These are compulsory assessment tasks which must be completed for you to successfully complete the course
Evaluation You will be asked to complete an evaluation sheet at the end of each day. Please do so as your feedback is really important to the trainer and to us as we review the success of the course.
