The chair of Safe Work Australia, Tom Phillips has called for submissions on the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws during the period for public comment:

"We need your views to ensure the model WHS Regulations and priority Codes of Practice are relevant to all workplaces", he said.

Ai Group has been part of the group representing government, industry and unions working on the development of the laws. Through this process we have been able to have a significant influence on the draft regulations and codes of practice.

The public comment process provides an opportunity for members and Ai Group to further influence the final outcome. The input of members who deal with safety issues on a day to day basis is very important.

Ai Group members can choose to have their comments submitted by Ai Group on their behalf: whsinfo@aigroup.asn.au or individually submit their comments to Safe Work Australia: submissions@safeworkaustralia.gov.au

Understanding the model WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice
The new WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice will replace existing safety regulations and codes in all states and territories on 1 January 2012.

To assist members to understand how the new regulations differ from exiting safety regulations in each state we have developed key issue documents 'Briefing Papers'.

Ai Group members can access these Briefing Papers here.
