Productivity Commission Study - Food Safety and OHS

The Productivity Commission is currently undertaking a study entitled Performance Benchmarking of Australian Business Regulations – OHS and Food Safety. The aim of the study is to identify whether the quantity and quality of regulations (Acts, regulations, codes or standards) are creating unnecessary administrative and/or cost burdens for business.

It is the intention of the Commission that the outcomes of the OHS portion of the study will help to inform the current debate regarding the National Model OHS Laws.

The timetable for the study is outlined below:

February-March 2009  -  Release of Information Papers
April-May 2009  -   Initial submissions due
August-September 2009  -  Draft report; call for further submissions
December 2009  -  Final reports

Members wishing to have input into these studies can do so by making their own submissions, or by providing input to Tracey Browne, Manager National OHS Policy and Membership Services, tracey.browne@aigroup.asn.au, telephone (03) 9867 0255.

Further information about the Commission and their previous reports focused on regulatory burden can be found at the Productivity Commission website.
