The Australian Digital Suppliers Industry Forum (ADSIF) has been established in response to demands from the suppliers of digital television and radio products for a more coordinated approach in addressing the planning and implementation issues related to digital television and radio in Australia.
Membership ranges from the major global manufacturers to small Australian-based suppliers of digital broadcasting products and services.
ADSIF objectives are to:
(i) provide a powerful voice for manufacturers and suppliers of digital products to government and broadcasters on issues relating to digital broadcasting in Australia; and (ii) coordinate industry/government programs that promote the uptake of digital broadcasting services.
To achieve these objectives, ADSIF will: - Work with retailers, government, broadcasters and installers to achieve switch-over to digital television in 2010-2013 by:
• promoting the digital supplier industry view to Government advisory bodies and work groups; • encouraging the involvement of retailers in the switchover process and industry/government initiatives; • ensuring that broadcasters meet milestones to provide equivalent reception coverage for digital terrestrial TV broadcasts as currently delivered by analog TV broadcasts; • proposing Government-funded retail-based incentives for consumers; and • promoting the facility for Over the Air System Software Updates. - Foster collaboration with retailers to ensure accuracy of information about products and services provided to consumers:
• encouraging and promoting training and education initiatives by government and the supplier industry; and • submitting articles relating to key issues faced by suppliers in the marketplace for publication in retailer industry magazines. - Promote digital television content as the key driver for digital television uptake, particularly through the following features:
• High Definition programming - especially High Definition sports broadcasts at 720p or better; • greater program choice; • new digital television services, including mobile television; and • the delivery of accurate free-to-air 7-day electronic program guide information. - Encourage the development of new platforms for digital broadcasting utilising open published standards for a range of consumer electronics devices.
