Australian Industry Group Defence Council

Australia’s defence industry has a strong record in supporting the Australian Defence Force. Since 1979 the industry has had its voice through the Australian Industry Group Defence Council. Member companies’ activities cover the spectrum of defence business – from systems and platform development, manufacture and throughlife support and facilities construction through to providing base support and personnel services. The activities of the Australian Industry Group Defence Council are guided by its National Executive which comprises the CEOs and heads of defence business units of Australia’s leading companies, together with key SMEs, all working with and supporting the Australian Defence Force.

The Australian Industry Group Defence Council is pursuing three main goals:

• To ensure that the critical contribution Australia’s defence industry defence capability is effectively recognised. With this recognition and certainty in defence-related planning and spending patterns.
• Ensuring the positive contribution that Australia’s defence industry makes to the Australian economy, both directly and indirectly, is understood throughout government and by the community generally.
• To ensure that Australian industry capabilities are integral to Defence on the basis of a genuine partnership between Defence and industry.

Membership
Membership of the Defence Council offers enhanced business opportunities through access and information.

Access to decision makers:

• Individual and collective approaches to key players in Defence and Government
  on procurement and policy issues; and
• Formal representation on Defence’s consultative fora including the Defence Industry Advisory Council, the Contracting Consultative Forum, the Defence Exporters Council, the Capability Development Advisory Forum, the Aerospace Industry Joint Steering Committee and the Defence Reserves Support Council.

Access to other defence companies:

• We provide opportunities to link, in particular, prime contractors with second and third tier companies.

Representations to Government and Defence decision makers:

• Submissions;
• Major publications; and surveys.

• A regular email summary which includes information about major defence activity, including defence-related news and seminars.
