Sustainability Covenant

Ai Group and EPA Victoria have entered into a voluntary sustainability covenant.  This Sustainability Covenant is a public commitment by Ai Group and EPA to work together to contribute to a more sustainable Victoria.  The Covenant provides a framework for delivering funding support and assistance for sustainability projects which will assist Victorian industry to adopt innovative environmental practices and realise significant resource efficiency, waste reduction, ecological and economic outcomes.

Under the Covenant, funding is available to member companies in Victoria for a range of projects, including (but not limited to):

• Identification and implementation of opportunities to avoid the generation of waste with particular focus on prescribed industrial waste and industrial trade waste
• Identification and implementation of opportunities which increase the efficiency of resource use i.e. energy, water, raw materials
• Identification of opportunities to integrate lifecycle approaches into business strategy and product and process design
• Support and facilitation of supply chain initiatives
• Support and facilitation of regionally based and industry sector based initiatives

The types of projects funded to date include:

• Cleaner production research
• Foundry sands recycling studies
• Life cycle assessments
• Biosolids research
• Reducing prescribed industrial waste in the metal finishing sector
• Wastewater pilot programs

• Cryovac case study
• Oxford Cold Storage case study
• Alcoa Fastening Systems case study
• Dentist case study

Projects need to demonstrate clear resource efficiency and waste reduction outcomes and contribute to capacity building within your company and/or supply chain, industry sector or geographic location. Projects will be funded on a rolling basis, and there is no predetermined limit of support.
